Should they be able to do that and would it voilate patient confidentiality between the doctor and the patient? If the patients is a threat to themselves or others should not the doctors intervene in the appropriate matter??

Would like an article that relates to family substance abuse and predisosition, specifically relating to a family member that is predisposed to addiction and doesn't use chemicals BUT has a mental disorder because of the predisposition.
