Alprazolam (Xanax) is a relatively short-acting benzo used for anxiety and panic disorder. It tends to be merely sedating.
Zolpidem (Ambien) is a much shorter acting benzodiazepine-like drug used for insomnia. It is sedating, but also tends to be (in my experience) substantially more disinhibiting and causes memory impairment.
