To the experts who claim AA/NA members experience a awakening?

I’ve never taken the time to post to a board such as this so I hope my question/rebuttal coincides with the theme of Alcoholics and AA meeting etc. I am myself a alcoholic, and without the help of a 12 step program I managed to put together 12 years of sobriety. I am highly educated and very open minded in ways of thinking. Unfortunately, I hate to disappoint you AA holics, but 12 step programs aren’t for everyone. And to say that we or whomever attends a 12 step meeting must agree/respect the LEADER of that meeting, is to exhibit exactly how ignorant you are. People earn respect, just as people are lead to God or a higher power "Over Time". have relapsed over and over every time I try the AA or anything that ends with A for that matter. For me, going to church, visiting a highly skilled psychologist on a weekly basis, and applying the cognitive skills I’ve learned over and over again. The hardest part, is to be completely honest when we live in such a judgmental/critical world. For all of you out there who say AA will never work for me, you’re not a BAD person for thinking that and don’t let anyone put you further down then you have already put yourself down. Figure out a program that works for "YOU" and that program will work. Unfortunately, we may suffer further setbacks until we figure out our own program but in the end that program will be the one that sticks. I’m fighting the same battle to stay sober on a daily basis and I can honestly say, that when I try a "program" put together by someone else, I stumble like I am now. My bottoms aren’t nearly as low as before but I need and want to quit relying on a substance to make me feel normal at best. I would like to write a book that covers a lot of these topics. No, Not like the book a Million Little Pieces, that Opra fell in love with. A book about "OUR" feelings and our journey along the way of life in trying to conquer those demons that ultimately destroy us. I can tell you non addictive people that there are at least 2 major battles an addict faces; one is a past history of being sexually abused as a chaild, and the second or maybe the first is major anxiety problems from earlier memories in our lives. Please shoot me a note and give me your thoguht, positive or negative.

Have a great day!
