Should you keep a supply of illicit drugs if it prevents your from abusing your ADHD medication?

I’m in the situation where dexamphetamine (prescribed by a psychiatrist) is the most beneficial medication I have ever used, and I plan to never stop using it, unless something better is created. It basically ‘fixes’ my life, like a hole in my brain has been mended and I’m free to do anything I want.

However, for a couple of years before it was prescribed, I had already been a heavy user of recreational stimulants. Unfortunately, taking drugs was (and still is) my favourite hobby, though I keep it fairly controlled (I’m not an addict - I can easily stop taking my adhd meds if I want/need to).

Needless to say, I abuse my ADHD medication a LOT. I would estimate 10 - 30% of my meds are used for the wrong purposes. It usually begins with an impulse decision to take, say, 40mg late at night and leave it at that. And it just snowballs from there, leaving my pill bottle 150mg lighter by the next morning.

I figured a better option than abusing my precious medication, would be to buy large quantities of illegal drugs and using them whenever I wanted to get high. Because if there is nothing else in the house but my meds, and I am in the mood for drugs, then I WILL abuse them.

Anyone else think this is a better idea, or can you see any problems with this idea?
