Anyone ever have a dilaudid injection?

I just recently left the hospital for a lung collapse. While I was in, they had to insert a chest tube. This is painful. Not an extreme pain such as cancer, but still not something you want to sit through if you have the option of taking pain medication. First they gave me vicodin, which made me nauseous. I requested something different and told them the vicodin was not strong enough so they started give me 3mg Dilaudid injections every 4 hours, and boyyyyy did that do the trick. Now I am at home on home care with this chest tube still in for another week. This tube still hurts like heck as it is sewn to my rib so any slight tug/pressure on the tube is painful. They prescribed me percocet which works well for 2 hours but my prescription says take every 6. Im wondering if this drug is not as effective because of the strong doses of dilaudid i was receiving. Basically im going to run out of percocets before I go back to the doc and I dont want them thinking Im abusing my meds like many people do. Do you think my doc will understand if I explain why I have used through my meds so quickly? I dont want to suffer, but I also do not want my doc thinking I’m and addict.
