What effects are loratabs supposed to have on you?

I was wondering, if this is a prescribed medicine, why is it so high on the druggies list of drugs to abuse? I know its a kind of pain med, but what does it do, like why would a druggie want the medicine, and if prescribed what does it do to the patient taking them?
