Mental health in the LGBT community?

I’ve met about 15 queer people, and all with the exception of 2 have or have had issues with either depression, self harm, suicidal thoughts, drug/alcohol abuse or other mental health problems such as paranoia/mania. I’m gay but I’ve never dealt with these problems. I don’t understand. Is this just a coincidence? Same sex marriage is legal in my country, so before I became more involved in the queer community, I assumed that more queer people would be well adjusted.
