really need advice. drug addiction.?

Okay, first off, this is not about me. It’s about my best friend. I’ll leave out names. He has been abusing pills for a while, and he always tells me that he’ll stop, and slow down. I try to see the good in him every time, but he fails me. I love him to death, and I don’t want him to continuously make the wrong choices. He takes pills such as: klonopin (prescribed, yet abuses them), percocet, vicodin, oxycontin, xanax, and ecstacy. Whenever I see or speak to him, he’s under the influence of one of those drugs. The past week and a half, it’s been progressively getting worse. He has called me numerous times late at night, and sometimes has no idea what it is he’s saying. His speech is slurred, incoherent, and drifts off which eventually turns to silence, only to return a few seconds later not realizing that we are even on the phone together. I need advice, from somebody who knows what it is they are talking about. Not somebody’s half ass remark, and two-cents which is not what Yahoo! Answers is for.

Also, two of his friends died this past summer/fall. One from carbon monoxide poisoning and the other from a terrible car accident. I would think that these things would scare him, or make him see that he needs to make careful choices and not use pills for things that they aren’t meant for. I’ve confronted him plenty of times but I get the same response, and the same actions later.

I guess actions speak louder than words, and I’m slowly losing hope.
Somebody, please help….

Use and abuse of drugs question?

Written on November 12, 2009 – 12:55 am | by Drug Abuse Help

The use and abuse of drugs, both those that are legal and those that are illegal, is a major problem. If you were the decision-maker as to what should be done to help lessen the problem, what ways to you think the issues should be addressed? Why?

What will happen to a child taken from her mother due to drug abuse?

Written on November 12, 2009 – 12:55 am | by Drug Abuse Help

Someone I know used drugs before, during, and after her pregnancy. Her daughter was born with a drug addiction and is still in the hospital (3 weeks). If reported, I assume the child will be taken away, but will the family be able to take custody of the child legally? Or does the child HAVE to go into a foster care setting? I don’t know how this works, and would like to possibly care for this child, but if I take the legal route I don’t want the baby to go to strangers. Does anyone know how this works?

Admitting a history of drug use to a doctor, yes or no?

Written on November 12, 2009 – 12:53 am | by Drug Abuse Help

If I tell a doctor that I have used/abused drugs previously, will this come back to haunt me? I have always heard never to admit this type of information to a medical professional, why is this? Will they tell my insurance company?

Legal Issues - Sister Child Support?

Written on November 11, 2009 – 4:09 am | by Drug Abuse Help

Hello and Thanks to everyone for answering my other question
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArJRjP.R.QiU7q4bEHIEGvAazKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20091022103629AAyA9Jz
But this is another issue… My sister…

When I found out that my sister (Jess) was pregnant, I must admit that I was upset with her. For the simple fact that this guy (Fil) she got pregnant with was a real jerk and they were both financially unstable. She lived with him at the time she got pregnant (he still lives at home with his mom in a garage converted into a bedroom) and we accepted him because we had no choice she liked him.

During her pregnancy, he would make her do everything. Cook, clean, Move the furniture and refrigerator around. When we had birthdays or occasions, he would tell her to tell us that they already had plans. But yet when I called her, she was crying telling me that she was bored and doing nothing at home and that he is keeping her from us because he didn’t like us.

For Fathers day she convinced him to let her come over to my house so that we can celebrate this together. He agreed but she got down from the car with my nephew she was (still in pain because she had the baby 3weeks ago from this point) and he just sat in the car waiting for her to come back so that they could leave. I asked Jess what was wrong with Fil and why doesn’t he want to hang out because we are all trying to get along. She said that he doesn’t like us and I told her that it still wasn’t an excuse for him to treat her the way that he does.

I told her that his nasty attitude is starting to piss me off and since she is my only sister, I am not willing to just sit around doing nothing while my little sister is being treated like dirt. I was going to walk out side when my Fiance’ saw how upset I was, he told me to stay in the house and went out side to confront him. He told me that he wanted to speak with him man to man and understand what his problem was..

My sister kept telling my Fiance’ Erock not to do it but he went out side to talk to him anyway. When Erock walked up to the car he said "What is your problem?" "Why are you doing this to our sister and why are you putting her thru so much pain?" Fil got down from the car willing to fight Erock and Erock simply told him that he didn’t go outside to fight but to understand what his problem was. Fil just stood there saying "what do you want to do about it? Here I am lets fight.." Jess ran outside and said no! She pulled Fil back inside the car and he told her to get her things because she wasn’t coming back.
2days pass and we find out that Fil is moving Jess and the baby to Texas. He said that we are always getting in his business and since they are moving to another state, there wasn’t anything that we could do about it. She told me for mothers day, he got up bright and early and left. She thought that he got ready to take her some where or to bring her a gift. She said he was gone all day and didn’t return until midnight on Mother’s day. She told me that she stayed up crying the whole night thru because he left her.
She told him that she needed some money to buy some things that the baby needed and he refused to give her anything. She had to call me to send her money for diapers for the baby and misc things that she needed for herself. She told him that she was tired of him treating her this way and told him that she was leaving him. He told her to go ahead and for her to figure a way for herself to get "back home" (to my moms house) he refused to help her.

My mom and I sent her some money to take a plane back to California. She got back and she told him that she is going to send him to Child Support because during pregnancy and during the baby’s time born, he didn’t give her a dime for the baby. My mom and I were helping her the whole way thru. He told her that she better not or else he is going to fight her for Child Custody. Since Fil said this to Jess, she has decided not to go thru with the Child Support because she doesn’t want Fil in any part of the baby’s life. (Please keep in mind that Fil’s family have a history of violence and drug abuse. He moved back home with his mom which is also housing his two sisters who are also drug users..) Jess doesn’t want this kind of life for Chris so she doesn’t want Fil in his life.

My Question -
What will happen in court?
Should Jess still file for Child Support?
By doing so, does this mean that Fil has a right to see or visit Chris?
Is there a possible way that Jess can just get full custody and also get Child Support?

Please give me your input.

Thanks so much!!

Are You Anti Or Pro Marijuana Legalization?

Written on November 11, 2009 – 4:09 am | by Drug Abuse Help

I am Pro-Marijuana. I Believe that alot of the information that has been sent out to the community is very twisted. For one, Most argue that 90% of major drug addicts started with marijuana. But i’d like to debate that 99% of drug addicts coud’ve gone to church before doing drugs. Does that mean that going to church leads to drug abuse? There is no hard evidence to show this as fact. Secondly, they like to tell you that there are 400 chemicals in marijuana. We eat plants. Every plant has a range of chemicals, some 400 some 700. Who knows. Theres 700 chemicals added to the tobacco put into todays cigarettes and they’re legal. For some reason, most anti-marijuana info brochures say, "when a user begins to feel that he or she needs to take the drug to feel well, that person is said to be dependent or addicted to the drug" When you get sick, you need medicine to feel well. When you’re hungry and your stomach hurts you need food to feel better. So we’re all addicted to food and medicine? Since they know pot isnt addictive they feel the need to twist the definition of addiction.

Now I would like to address the pros of Marijuana Legalization. Although Pot has it’s problems, it’s benefits for outweigh it’s consequences.

-If Pot were legal, many people would switch from alcohol to Pot. I think that a lot of Alcohol abuse come from the fact that it is the only legal drug and therefore is overused. Alcohol is highly addictive, physically and psychologically destructive, and is a severe drag on society. I think that if Pot were legal that many people would switch to Pot and be much better off. I think one side effect of legalizing Pot would be a major reduction in the abuse of Alcohol and that the number of traffic deaths would drop dramatically.

-Another reason is to save the huge cost in tax dollars wasted in prohibiting Pot and enforcing drug laws that have no benefit to society. If Pot were legal you immediately eliminate the illegal Pot market and get rid of crime associated with Pot money. You could also release from jail all those convicted from Pot related offenses and cut the costs of having to build new prisons to incarcerate normal people. Because of mandatory drug sentencing laws, many states have to release violent offenders to make room for Pot smokers.

-Pot has many other uses. Before the lumber industry lobbied Congress to make Pot illegal, Marijuana (known as Hemp) was the primary source of fiber for the production of paper. The United States Constitution is printed on Pot. With today’s technologies this fiber can be processed into construction materials that would replace wood products saving our forests and lowering the costs of construction while producing byproducts useful in making fuels to run cars and generate electricity. Hemp is a very hearty plant and would be a good cash crop for our nation’s farmers.

-Many more jobs would open up as a result of marijuana lagalization. The people who produce/grow the hemp trees. Those who package. Those who distribute. Those who transport. And not to mention the illegal dealers would be thrown off the streets and less laced marijuana would be sold to unsuspecting pot smokers.

-Marijuana is a medicinal herb. Not a drug. THC is the drug. Marijuana has been shown to help insomniacs with sleep. Ease stomach pains/nausea of cancer patients in chemotherapy. Helps headaches.

The last of my arguements is the topic of the effect marijuana has on the brain. While marijuana does slightly mess with short term memory, the effects are not long term and do heal over time. there are no long term/permanent effects to the brain while there is still a chance of lung cancer and heart problems. But these risk are shown more in cigarette smokers. Marijuana also opens up parts of the brain that aren’t usually active while you are sober. it reallocates mental resources allowing you to become more imaginative and to come up with new solutions to problems.

I would like to hear you opinions and questions.
